Placid Plastic Duck Simulator Review: A Missed Opportunity

Rating: 2 out of 5.

Placid Plastic Duck Simulator had potential, but ultimately, it left me feeling disappointed. The graphics are stunning—there’s no denying the attention to detail in the water effects, the adorable ducks, and the relaxing ambiance. However, this game’s charm ends there.

The issue? There’s literally nothing to do except watch the rubber ducks float. While you can choose the color of your duck, move the camera, and toggle the music, that’s about it. I kept waiting for something more—a way to control the duck, or maybe slide down that tempting-looking water slide—but no such luck. For a game that cost €8,99 on Nintendo Switch, the lack of interaction is a huge letdown. For a game that is supposed to be relaxing, it frustrated me because I really wanted to be able to move the rubber duck. Just let me swim!

The two stars I’m giving is for the cute “quack” sounds the ducks make and the gorgeous visuals, but those elements alone aren’t enough to justify the price. After about 10 minutes of trying everything the game had to offer, I shut it down. You could honestly get the same experience by watching a rubber duck video on YouTube.

Unless you’re looking for a completely passive experience, Plastic Duck Simulator will likely leave you as unsatisfied as it left me. But maybe you like a quirky, relaxing game where you watch plastic ducks float around, perfect for cozy vibes—and for cozy vibes only. Just don’t expect any gameplay.
